More sad news has arrived over the last few months.  Legendary Rock ‘n’ Roller Bo Diddley died  of heart  failure at his home June 2nd.  Jazz musician Jimmy Guiffre (who suppplied the ‘Jazz On A Summers Day’ film with the excellent track ‘The Train And The River’) died 2 days short of his 87th birthday.  Singer/Song writer/Producer and multi talented musician Chris Gaffney (most recently of the excellent ‘Hacienda Brothers’) died of cancer April 18th.

Ever since I got ‘The Band Of Heathens’ live CD/DVD ‘Live At Antone’s’ I’ve been lookin’ forward to the release of their debut studio CD.  Well the self titled CD is available now.
Is it good?  I think so but don’t just take my word for it. . .
"With their wealth of wonderful tunes, it's easy to see why Texas music great Ray Wylie Hubbard
signed on to produce this fabulous first effort." - Michael Berick,  No Depression.
"If you're an Americana radio station and you don't play this record, then you're not an Americana radio station. The Band of Heathens are, by far, my favorite discovery in the last 2 years." - Mattson Rainer, KNBT.

Fans of the beat poets should certainly check out ‘Cryptic Whalin!’ CD by Wes Race.  Wes was born in Kansas but now lives in Fort Worth, Texas.  He can often be seen at many of the surrounding Blues clubs checkin’ out the local beats and when asked will entertain the crowd with a poem or two.  I was first introduced to Wes way back in 2000.  Over the years I’ve
seen him perform a number of times.  A firm favourite with his many fans is ‘Shot Time’ which is the opening track on this his debut CD.  Wes spreads his wise words to the beat of local musicians including Sumter Bruton, James Hinkle and saxophinist Johnny Reno.  More about Wes Race comin’ to SP real soon.
‘Cryptic Whalin!’ Is available from Amazon.com

"Chicago's original honky-tonk fools," the Gin Palace Jesters who play damn fine hard hitting hillbilly Honky-tonk, Country Boogie, and Western Swing have released their latest CD ‘Roadhouse Riot’ (and other songs with words).  The Gin Palace Jesters are a true authentic American band often seen holding court where the thrones are bar stools, the lights
are made of neon, the spirits are served on the rocks and...  Hank Williams is King.
