1. Biggest Influence(s)?
i'd have to say rex trailer and don pierce. rex is an old-timer cowboy up here in boston (from texas) who has really been a great friend and done everything he can to help my career. don pierce was the co-founder of the famed starday records and was also a great friend.
2. Favourite records/tracks old or new?
tough to pull out just 8,
but lately i've been listenin' to
1. count basie's 'did you see jackie robinson hit that ball?'
2. glenn barber's 'ice water' (i'll be backing glenn at green bay this year)
3. orangie ray hubbard's 'sweet love'
4. loyd howell's 'froggy went a-courtin'
5. tibby edward's 'long time gone'
6. george jones' 'too much water'
7. dave and deke combo 'right behind me'
8. jonathan richman 'you're crazy for taking the bus'
3. What would you be if not a musician?
pro baseball player. right field. batting 9th for the KC Royals. that's gotta be an easy job to get, right?
4. Career high point so far?
co-authoring a book on starday records with starday president and co-founder don pierce and later having him record the intro for our new record
5. Perfect night off?
perfect night for me? taking in a baseball game at fenway and a honky tonk show in cambridge. beers. dancing. rockin'. and i think bowling a perfect game at 4 in the morning would just put the night over the edge
6. Most recent CD in your CD player?
burned CD of mercury-starday rockabilly stuff
7. Favourite book/film?
i love just about every film from b-movie director ron ormond. 'forty acre feud' is the classic country music exploitation flic, but 'the monster and the stripper' (with sleepy labeef as the shirtless swamp monster) is just as good.
8. Whiskey - Jack or Jim?
i'm really just a beer guy, but i'd have to go with jack here, based solely on the starday connection... dan quest, who designed the early king and starday LPs, later worked for jack daniels designing wood cuts and new labels...
